The East Midlands Forensic Network (EMFN) is a collection of practitioners, academics, researchers and service providers from across the region (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland). Together, they work in partnership to champion meaningful, sector leading research and knowledge development across various areas of forensic science and practice. The EMFN draws together experience, knowledge and expertise to identify areas in need of development within forensic science practice and research, and proactively works to address this. Since our launch in September 2022, we have grown both in terms of numbers and expertise, and now have over 80 members who specialise in over 20 areas of forensic science.
The EMFN holds an event twice a year, providing members with the opportunity to meet and discuss a range of contemporary issues and share knowledge regarding the latest practice and research. The most recent event was held at De Montfort University in Leicester, where colleagues from FIND discussed the new YSTR database:- https://www.dmu.ac.uk/about-dmu/news/2024/september/forensic-science-researchers-gather-for-a-major-conference-at-dmu.aspx)
Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences
More recently, the EMFN were invited to give a presentation at the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences Conference in Leeds, entitled ‘Growing stronger together in the East Midlands’, which was aligned with this year’s theme ‘Collaboration: the cornerstone of forensic science’. The presentation was a true representation of collaboration, as it was delivered by four members from different organisations within the EMFN and quotes were incorporated from other members who were unable to join the event. This was a great opportunity to promote collaboration in Forensic Science and showcase some of the fantastic work being undertaken in the region.
