The East Midlands Police Academic Collaboration has refreshed its proactive research priorities ready for an exciting year in 2020. EMPAC’s strategic leads are Derbyshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Hardyal Dhindsa, and Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Swann, on behalf of the East Midlands region.
Our proactive priorities for policing research and innovation
The new Research Partnership Manager role is now directly funded equally across East Midlands policing (following previous investment via the Home Office and HEFCE via the Police Knowledge Fund) as a specialist police staff post. The new proactive targeted priorities for policing are:
- Force Management Statements: Understanding Demand, led by Supt. Mark Housley (Lincs) and Dr Rowena Hill (NTU)

EMPAC welcomes other additional research workstreams which are of interest to any academic researcher(s) and offers a beneficial impact to East Midlands policing. EMPAC welcomes any interest in scoping external research bid funding (such as ESRC). Researchers are invited to discuss their thoughts with EMPAC concerning the relevance of proposed research to policing, on a case by case basis.

This helps fine tune how research is developed for usefulness and application as well as on what particular policing priority topic. EMPAC doesn’t just want to encourage good ideas it wants to see them used!
