Impact Accelerator Funding Launch 24th June 2019

EMPAC is very pleased to be working with the University of Leicester, supported by an Impact Accelerator Account from the Economic and Social Research Council, which is to develop the impact of social science research. There is a launch of the programme for four Midlands Universities who have an award taking place on 24 June at Loughborough University.

This launch will celebrate a new four-year round of funding, collectively amounting to £4.5 million, that has been awarded to the Universities of Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham and Warwick by the Economics and Social Research Council (ESRC) via their Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) scheme.

The launch on 24 June is aimed at current and potential partner organisations, researchers, and University staff from across the region to find out more about the overall IAA programme and how it can benefit the region. At the event, some of the region’s social sciences researchers that have worked with partners in community, public policy and business settings over the last five years to accelerate impact from their research, will hear about future plans with the new ESRC IAA awards.

The key note speaker will be Professor Paul Nightingale, Director of Strategy at the ESRC. Paul is Professor of Strategy at the University of Sussex and was Deputy Director of the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU). He is one of the UK editors of Research Policy, the leading international innovation studies journal. Originally trained as a chemist, he worked in industry before undertaking a PhD in Science Policy at SPRU. His main areas of research are science policy and the strategic management of technology, and he has researched extensively on innovation and its management and financing. Paul spent most of his career as a contract researcher and spent 10 years with the Complex Product Systems Innovation Centre, funded by the ESRC.
