Community Engagement and Tackling ASB at NTU, 30th July

This one-day event is comprised of two sessions:

Session 1 (10.30 am -12 pm)
The morning session will showcase, and officially launch, the Community Engagement Area Classification. This is a policy tool developed by Dr James Hunter which is designed to help police forces and their partners shape community engagement strategy and target initiatives. During the event, police forces can sign up to a 12-month trial of the online tool which identifies community engagement ‘rich’ and ‘poor’ neighbourhoods across England at the LSOA level.

Session 2 (12.45 pm – 2 pm)
The afternoon session will showcase the findings to date from an Economic and Social Research Council funded project titled: ‘who experiences anti-social behaviour (ASB) and in what context?’ (led by Dr Becky Thompson). A major strand of this work has looked at the impact of ASB on quality of life and daily routine. Our findings thus far suggest different types of ASB have varying degrees of impact. We plan to use this event to present our work to date on the development of an ‘ASB Harm Index’. Attendees will have the opportunity to comment upon this work (i.e. how might the Index work in practice?) as well as shape the future direction of the project.

Both sessions will include a mixture of presentations and roundtable discussions. We hope the event will be of particular interest to practitioners and policymakers in policing, government and the voluntary sector.
